La diversidad en los consejos directivos y su papel en la adopción de políticas de inclusión digital por empresas estadounidenses

Resumen

Objetivo

La brecha digital se está transformando cada vez más en una fuente de desigualdad social y económica, ya que el acceso a las tecnologías digitales sigue siendo limitado para muchas poblaciones. En respuesta a esto, han surgido iniciativas de inclusión digital para cerrar esta brecha y proporcionar un acceso más equitativo a los recursos digitales. Estas iniciativas han ganado terreno en el mundo empresarial, ya que las empresas reconocen la importancia de la inclusión digital para ampliar su base de clientes y cumplir con sus responsabilidades sociales corporativas. Sin embargo, existe una investigación limitada sobre los factores específicos de la empresa que influyen en la adopción de políticas de inclusión digital en las empresas.

Metodología

Utilizando datos del conjunto de datos ISS ESG, analizamos más de cien empresas de tecnología y medios entre 2016 y 2021.

Resultados

Nuestros hallazgos revelan que los directores ejecutivos y presidentes de minorías y una mayor representación de mujeres en la junta directiva están asociados positivamente con una mayor adopción de políticas de inclusión digital. Los resultados de nuestro estudio amplían la investigación previa sobre la brecha/inclusión digital y los determinantes de la puntuación ESG. El artículo aporta información valiosa sobre la importancia de la diversidad en los consejos para la adopción de políticas de inclusión digital. También subraya la importancia de la diversidad y la inclusión para dar forma a un acceso equitativo a la tecnología.

Limitaciones e implicaciones

Si bien este es el primer estudio que aborda los factores determinantes de las políticas corporativas de inclusión digital, también contiene limitaciones. Estas son el uso de un único conjunto de datos (ISS) para medir las puntuaciones ESG y el número relativamente bajo de observaciones.

Originalidad / Contribución

Este artículo cubre esta necesidad al explorar el impacto de la diversidad en el consejo corporativo (en particular, la diversidad de género y raza/etnia) en la adopción de políticas de inclusión digital por parte de las empresas estadounidenses. Hasta donde sabemos, somos los primeros en investigar esta relación.
