Análisis de las promociones de ventas en Internet: el caso de las agencias de viaje

Internet ha transformado de forma sorprendente la actividad empresarial en numerosos sectores.
Actualmente es necesario delimitar el posicionamiento y las actividades a desarrollar a través de la web. El sector turístico no ha sido ajeno a esta tendencia. La fuerte apuesta de este sector por las nuevas tecnologías ha generado la aparición de nuevas agencias de viaje que operan exclusivamente online. Éstas conviven con las agencias tradicionales.
La competencia entre las agencias online y las tradicionales está siendo especialmente visible en su política promocional.
Sin embargo, a pesar de la importancia de las promociones de ventas en la decisión de compra y en la lealtad hacia la web, se desconoce el modo en que están usando esta herramienta las agencias de viaje españolas. Este trabajo analiza la actividad promocional de las agencias de viaje que sólo tienen presencia online y la de las agencias tradicionales que trabajan a nivel multicanal. Para ello llevamos a cabo un análisis de contenido de las webs de las principales agencias de viaje españolas seleccionadas en base al tráfico de su web y a su nivel de facturación. El estudio se realizó en agosto de 2009. Los resultados revelan que las agencias tradicionales aun están adaptándose al medio. Las agencias online muestran una ligera ventaja en este sentido, ya que presentan un mayor dinamismo y realizan promociones de ventas de menor duración que las tradicionales. Además, el estudio realizado ha revelado que la política promocional de las agencias de viaje se ha centrado básicamente en la realización de promociones de tipo monetario, con una presencia residual de las promociones no monetarias. Ante este escenario se puede concluir que, en general, las agencias de viaje españolas apenas están utilizando las potencialidades del medio Internet en el planteamiento y desarrollo de sus promociones de ventas.
